How to change default folders icon in windows

How to change the windows default folder icon without any software


Step 1: Open the start menu and type in search box regedit.exe

 

Now open the regedit.exe

this seems like image below

Step 2: Now follow the path given below

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

this will show you like

Step 3: now 'Right click' on explorer and click on new then click on key like below

after clicking on new this will creat a new folder

give it name "Shell Icons" like image given below

Step 4: Now click 'right click' in empty space and click on string value

like image shown below

after making a string value give it name "3"

Step 5: "right click" on string shown in above image and

 click on modify and paste the path of icon file 

now click on ok

i am selecting the path of icon shown in image below

Step 6: restart your PC you will able to see the changed icon of folders
